First post to corporate finance

10.06am
It's been almost a month since I start learning corporate finance through professor Damodaran's class. I'm taking it slow but aiming to finish one lecture session per week. Right now, I am reading his emails and listing out what I should do on top of doing everything on the webcast. The next to do items for the week are:
  1. Finish watching recorded session 2
  2. Watch In Practice Webcast #1
  3. Watch the movie: "Other People's Money"
  4. Read "Applied Corporate Finance" book, chapter 1 and 2
  5. Read either "Disney War" by James B Stewart or "The Ride of a Lifetime" by Robert Iger or both!
  6. Pick a company
1.57pm
I've done #1 and 2. Interesting things to note such as the professor owned 50 different stocks and doesn't attend annual meeting (me too!). Interesting story about Disney in the 90s and how Dreamworks came about. I'm pumped to read about Disney. The session has another homework, which is to analyse a company's board of directors. It's such a new insight to me since in Indonesia, it seems common to have ex-employee working as director or ceo as member of bod or owner as director. Never occurred to me that the bod's role is to ask question to the CEO and therefore should have no conflict of interest. I should learn more on Indonesian ruling on the bod members.
